Purpose: To assist with harvesting and produce distribution, including harvesting at the Henry Got Crops site, assisting at the farm market, and packing up the CSA. This position is ideal for someone who has one or two years of farm apprenticeship/internship experience, produce retail experience, and is looking to deepen and broaden their farming and farm market skills at a community centric, urban, production farm.
Duties/Responsibilities: The distribution assistant is responsible for supporting the field manager in harvesting activities, including high quality control and efficient harvesting and washing, weighing, labeling, packing and rotating produce in a walk-in refrigerator. Assistant is also responsible for working independently to clean up the CSA, including inventorying left over produce, practicing strict quality control and packing up orders. Assistant is also responsible for supporting the farm market manager in farm market operations, including packing orders, maintaining grocery and produce displays, talking to customers about the farm partnership, checking out customers at the register and following front-end opening and closing procedures. While working at the farm market, the distribution assistant will serve as the initial point person for customer and volunteer questions pertaining to the CSA. Field assistant will supervise and work with volunteers multiple times a week.
Administrative Tasks: clocking in and out, logging harvest pounds and operating the register for farm orders and market customers
Schedule/Hours: Assistant is expected to work 4 days a week, totaling 32 to 40 hours per week. The schedule is Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at the Henry Got Crops/Saul location.
Compensation/Benefits: This is an hourly paid position, starting at $11.50/hr, eligible for a $0.50 raise after 6 months, eligible for Weaver Way Co-op benefits. Farm staff are welcome to have produce from the farms, and receive a staff discount and working member discount of 15% at Weavers Way Coop and farm market. Any hours worked over 40 hours/week are subject to over time rate (time and a half).

Minimum Qualifications: A full season of farming.
Physical Requirement and Timeline Commitment: Field Assistant is expected to commit to a minimum of one growing season, from late April until Thanksgiving. You should be able to work under adverse conditions (heat, humidity, cold, rain) and be able to lift 50 lbs, preferably at the same time.
Skills/Attributes: Must be team oriented, a strong communicator, and flexible; must have a strong work ethic and willingness to get dirty; as well as an ability and desire to work with and supervise volunteers of all ages and abilities. Must have a high attention to detail and superb quality control skills. Must be able to work well in a team as well as independently. Strong candidates will have excellent organization skills, mental math skills and have an enthusiasm for a well-organized, tidy walk-in refrigerator!
