National Airlines, based in Orlando, FL, operates passenger charter service as well as customized military and commercial air cargo carriages worldwide. National Airlines specializes in over-sized, time sensitive, and special handling requirements, utilizing 747-400 and A-330 aircraft to accomplish its missions. 


Job Title: Supervisor of Heavy Maintenance Planning 

Location: Orlando, FL 

Department: Quality 

Reports To: Manager of Maintenance Programs 

FLSA Status: Exempt 


Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the company's Safety Management System (SMS). 
  • Actively promotes a positive attitude toward safety and compliance. 
  • Maintains Maintenance Program tasks within the maintenance and inventory database. 
  • Revises Inspection Program manuals to incorporate changes published by aircraft manufacturers. 
  • Reviews FAA Airworthiness Directives (AD) for inclusion into the applicable inspection program 
  • Processes Major Repair data and incorporate follow up requirements into the inspection program. 
  • Revises manufacturer’s MPD task cards to include company specific requirements. 
  • Authors task cards to include service bulletin data associated with AD method of compliance. 
  • Supervises a department of employees who perform various functions related to Maintenance Programs. 
  • Reviews current maintenance programs and revises as necessary to bring additional aircraft onto certificate. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation or related field; and/or an equivalent amount of education and work experience 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. 
  • FAA certificate mechanic with Airframe and Power plant ratings, and a minimum of five (5) years exercising the certificate is preferred but not required. 
  • Able to read and comprehend complex Airworthiness Directives and apply their requirements. 
  • Basic understanding of Title 14 CFRs and the maintenance and airworthiness requirements 
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3) fundamentals 
  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently. 
  • Must be well groomed and maintain a professional appearance. 
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a record that meets our company’s insurance standards. 
  • Must pass a background check which may include a pre-employment drug test and criminal history records check (CHRC) 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country in which the position is located (United States). 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication skills 
  • Proficient with Microsoft products, including but not limited to advanced knowledge of Excel. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and have a positive attitude. 
  • Strong attention to details 


Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

  • Responsible for the Maintenance Programs department staff. 

Computer Skills:

  • High level of proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications 
  • Certificates/Licenses:
  • Airframe and Powerplant Certificate is preferred but not required. 

Travel/Other Requirements:

  • 10% domestic and international travel. 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, copy machine/printer. 
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work 
  • Light to moderate lifting up to 10 pounds. 

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business offices with computers, phones, printers, and overhead lights). 
  • Ability to work in a confined office or open cubicle environment
