  7. Please choose one of the following internships that aligns best with your degree and professional goals

Rapid Response:
Provide psychiatric evaluation, crisis intervention, stabilization, disposition, and referral services in consultation with the on-call psychiatrist for persons in need of emergency psychiatric care appearing in our community hospital emergency departments and/or in the community through our Mobile Crisis Response team. You will be working with a team of professionals – including first responders, healthcare providers, and community-based agencies – to stabilize a psychiatric crisis situation, avoid hospitalization and/or incarceration, and initiate immediate community-based treatment. This is a fast-paced, dynamic position that requires flexibility, multitasking, and strong crisis management skills. In addition, clinicians provide in-office triage, crisis intervention, stabilization, back-to-school evaluations, and referral services as appropriate for persons scheduled by evaluating clinicians in the EDs and/or referred by other providers, calling on the phone (for themselves or others) or walk-ins to our lobby as indicated by presenting psychiatric status. Shifts are flexible and include overnights and occasional assigned weekend shifts.

ACT:
With the exception of meetings, which may be attended remotely, this position requires consistent in-person, community-based, direct-service care. As part of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, caseloads are shared, meaning all team members may work with any patient at any given time to ensure continuity and comprehensive support.

Interns are expected to see a minimum of five patient contacts during an eight-hour workday. Because ACT patients often require multiple visits per week, the number of unique patients served weekly may vary based on clinical need.

After completing required trainings and sufficient shadowing, interns will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and supporting patient adherence to prescribed, pre-packaged medications
  • Assisting patients with accessing and navigating community resources, including the Department of Health and Human Services, Social Security, medical appointments, and essential needs such as grocery shopping
  • Assessing patient symptoms and providing appropriate therapeutic interventions in community settings
  • Participating in required trainings to strengthen and expand clinical and therapeutic skills

This internship offers hands-on experience delivering high-intensity, team-based behavioral health services in real-world community environments.

The department is looking for one second year master level intern to fulfill 24 hours a week. The supervisor has a MSW and LICSW for credentials.

This internship will require a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and active automobile insurance, as this role involves extensive community-based travel. Mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal reimbursement rate.
