 As a Part-Time Mechanic with our ambulance company, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our emergency response fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community. This is more than a typical automotive position — it’s a chance to apply your technical expertise in a setting where your work directly supports life-saving operations. 

 

About the Opportunity

Part-time hours approximately 24 hours per month

The compensation range for this part-time position is $28.00 plus per hour, representing our good faith and reasonable estimate of the potential compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skill set.

Position Overview

Repairs and maintains company and customer vehicles and mechanical equipment (engines, hydraulic systems, etx.) within the regulations and standards set by DOT (Dept. of Transportation), NYS DOH (NY state Dept. of Health), and DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles) by performing the following duties.


Essential Job Functions

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation to watch and listens for causes of failure
  • Diagnoses electrical and computer control devises using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts.
  • Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
  • Repairs electrical equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles.
  • Completion of major fabrication work as assigned, to include; body work, painting, installation of wheelchair lifts, etc.
  • Road service calls as necessary to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment.
  • Timely communication to Supervisors and Dispatchers of vehicles off road for service and repair. (To include target time for returning to road service.)
  • Performs New York State D.O.T. inspections of road vehicles.
  • Road tests equipment and vehicles.
  • Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plan.
  • Operates snow removal equipment.
  • Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed.




Requirements
  •  Must have own tools 
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Minimum of Two (2) years as an Automotive Technician
  • ASE Certified Technician (A1-A8) Not required but preferred
  • NYS Inspectors License is a plus
  • Technical skills to diagnosis, electrical and mechanical repairs
  • Effective and professional communications skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent. One year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 18 years of age.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
