Job Summary

As a Gen Tech 4  at GenServe, you will serve as a senior field service expert, providing advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a wide variety of commercial and industrial generator systems. You are expected to lead by example, support junior technicians, and manage complex jobs independently with a high degree of technical skill and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive troubleshooting and repairs on standby generators, transfer switches, and related equipment (including diesel, natural gas, and propane systems).
  • Conduct advanced electrical diagnostics including controls, Isolation/Bypass ATS’s, and ATS logic.
  • Handle complex field commissioning of new generator systems.
  • Commission new generator systems and controls, ensuring compliance with GenServe and industry standards. 
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals accurately.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurrent system failures and provide permanent solutions.
  • Use digital and analog diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Document all work performed, including parts used, time on site, and service outcomes.
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding service work, recommendations, and follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to emergency service requests and ensure timely resolution of customer issues.
  • Support and be a key escalation point for urgent service calls.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in Diesel, Electrical, or Power Generation Technology preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of generator service experience, with a focus on commercial/industrial systems.
  • Proficiency with multiple OEMs including Generac, CAT, Cummins, Kohler, MTU, and ASCO.
  • Strong knowledge of engine systems (diesel/natural gas), electrical systems (single/three-phase), and controls.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 110, NFPA 70E and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work in various environments and conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must perform all duties and responsibilities of a Level 3 Technician.
  • EGSA Certification (Journeyman).
  • OEM training from Generac, Cummins, Kohler, or other major brands.
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring systems and network communications.
