These are the essential requirements to serve in the Teacher in Residence role: 

  • Bachelor's degree and valid California Teaching Credential (as applicable to the position requirements) with English Language Learner Authorization.
    • Multiple Subject and/or Single Subject
  • 1 + years of verified and successful teaching experience in a public school setting.
  • Experience working with blended, online, personalized, and/or virtual learning schools preferred.
  • Experience and strong theoretical and practical knowledge base of educational best practices, recent research in education, and CA standards curriculum and objectives.
  • Proficiency in applying and learning digital engagement, communication, computer and software tools, including but not limited to Google Workplace, Microsoft Office, AI applications, project management and digital communication tools (e.g., Gmail, ParentSquare),  Learning management Systems (e.g., Google Classroom), student information systems (e.g., School Pathways), and various social media platforms as appropriate and online learning platforms (e..g, Accelerate Education).

These are the desired skills to serve in the Teacher in Residence role:

  • Ability to rapidly learn and apply new technology, software, and evolving laws, regulations. Policies and procedures.
  • A collegial approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to connect, assess and support scholars and families remotely.
  • Assimilate and organize information quickly to support scholars adjusting to change.

Essential duties and responsibilities for the Teacher in Residence may include:

  • Assume the supervising teacher role and responsibilities during temporary vacancies, leaves or as needed.
  • Collaborate with learning coaches, other CCS support staff and scholars to prepare the learning environment and learning objectives in accordance with scholars’ learning styles and school’s philosophy, and assess regularly for academic growth and planning.
  • Provide academic support to teachers and scholars, including curriculum assistance and on-call substitute teaching as needed.
  • Communicate class objectives, weekly assignments, homework requirements, grading rubrics, and scales to scholars and learning coaches.
  • Monitor scholar progress, provide constructive feedback, and support mastery of subject content.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for scholars of all ability levels, including those with special needs.
  • Analyze benchmark exam results to deliver targeted instruction for low-performing scholars and collaborate with departments to ensure curriculum accessibility.
  • Maintain accurate records in student information systems, including but not limited to,  attendance, coursework, scholar logs, report cards, contacts, and assessment data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support scholars with additional needs and implement inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Participate in scholar recruitment and retention initiatives, engagement activities, and school-wide events.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to staff training initiatives.
  • Assist in achieving department and organizational goals by providing support and collaboration as needed.
  • Implement all IEP and 504 accommodations; utilize appropriate EL strategies (e.g., SDAIE); and implement tiered interventions of the CCS MTSS framework.
  • Prepare for, participate in,  and/or lead meetings to support scholars (eg,. SST, IEP)
  • Apply information from data and utilize CCS resources to support scholar achievement. Support scholars in ordering the appropriate resources needed based on their master agreement, courses, and interest/aptitude.
  • Apply Compass and Independent Study policy, procedure and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant attendance and practices, including but not limited too, supporting collection of work samples and attendance, and documentation in contact manager..
  • Support the application and grading of assignments and standards with integrity with Compass gradebooks, Learning Management Systems, and curriculum alignment.

Work Environment:

Position is based in an approved home office in the State of California. As the safety, adequacy, and functionality of the approved home office is key, approval must be provided to work from any other location with the exception of the Central Office. May be required to also work from the Central Office, Learning Center, or other Compass location as directed by supervisor or the Superintendent & CEO. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of scholars, Learning Coaches (parents), and staff. Must be able to travel throughout the State of California for school-related activities. Note - you will be required to notify HR if any work will be performed in San Francisco or out of state for any period of time for review and pre-approval.
