The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. The school educates and boards 400 students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.
The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts.

Position Summary:
The Special Education Teacher position supports the classroom teacher academically in the classroom. The position will support students who have been identified as historically disadvantaged and are performing below grade-level expectancies.
Job Description:
- Develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
- Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives.
- Follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
- Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
- Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including iPads.
- Serves as primary contact for the parent.
- Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
- Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
- Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations. Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
- Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following: Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, on school premises, or during school activities.
- Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
- Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers etc.) regarding the needs of students.
- Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.
Qualifications:
The MS/ US Special Educator will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by the State of Maryland authority. In accordance with certification requirements and performance expectations, all classroom teachers shall meet the following employment criteria.
- MSDE Certification in Special Education preferred or ability to obtain a conditional license.
- Successful completion of a background check
- Bachelor's Degree
