Description

Under guidance from the Manufacturing Engineer Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will improve the capability, productivity, and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will review all finishing processes to optimize efficiency, yields, and productivity. This person will be responsible for implementing and/or managing other process control systems to reduce process variability and improve overall quality. The Manufacturing Engineer will facilitate process parameter validation and methodology. This is at-will employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses and documents existing processes. Implements and evaluates changes to existing processes designed to enhance productivity, safety, or product quality.
  • Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigates their potential applications.
  • Works directly with sales, technical, engineering design on new project development and attends DRT to review and approve new products or product changes for manufacturability.
  • Evaluates, develops, and executes projects, including project planning, feasibility studies, design, cost estimation preparation of appropriation requests, and review of vendor bids and drawings.
  • Works with management, operators, maintenance and engineering to continually identify and justify improvement opportunities for quality, cost, productivity, downtime and scrap.
  • Utilizes recognized statistical process control techniques and other measurement tools to develop, maintain and present required reports detailing the effectiveness of existing processes or supporting the need for the introduction of new processes and procedures.
  • Experience with converting equipment, process documentation and process control methodology. 
  • Develop, maintain and audit systems and procedures. 
  • Coordinate product trials of new product designs and new converting equipment. Write trial plans; coordinate machine availability as needed for trials. Communicate trial plans with all parties involved. 
  • Manage documentation and process information for vendors / distributors (SOP). 
  • Assist in validation efforts for new equipment and processes. 
  • Contribute to developing next year’s capital plan project list. 
  • Coordinate and communicate with others in the engineering group on project spending for projects managed by others. 
  • Participate in Kaizen events & respond to all manufacturing related Andons

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in project or process engineering experience in electromechanical assembly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/industrial engineering preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing principles. Green Belt preferred but not required. 
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and CAD (SolidWorks preferred), SQL.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

Climate-controlled indoor manufacturing plant and offices. May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 


Work Location & Hours

This position will work on site in NK’s facilities in Boothwyn, PA. Our manufacturing team works Monday to Thursday from 6:30 to 5:00 but there is some flexibility to set consistent Monday to Friday hours that differ from these hours.


Training

Most training is on-the-job but formal education and training may be provided where appropriate.


Pay Rate

This is a salaried position. Pay rate commensurate with qualifications and experience as well as company size. Annual bonus based on company and individual performance ranges averages 2% to 4% of compensation.
