The designer works on assigned projects independently or as a member of a project team. This role designs and executes conceptual and functional layouts according to supplied strategic and creative input. They may, on occasion, work directly with account service, production artists and outside contractors (freelancers and vendors) to complete design requirements or supervise in-house production, but more typically works under the direction of an art director or creative lead. Reports to the creative lead.
This person could be located in the Kansas City, MO, office; Columbia, MO, office; or remote.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Creates and designs across print and digital formats with total fluency.
- Shifts seamlessly between complex digital experiences and traditional print design. They understand the different constraints of each and are proficient at both.
- Utilizes a human-centered approach to design. Every solution always starts with the user.
- Works within and contributes to design systems.They understand that efficiency comes from scale and reusable components.
- Ensures projects are completed with high quality and on schedule.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget.
- Performs retouching and manipulation of images.
Knowledge and Skills
- A proven ability to work collaboratively.
- Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and digital experiences
- High level of proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite apps and Figma
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferred (Front-end development is a plus)
- Familiarity with Adobe Premiere and After Effects as well as banner ad software a plus
- Experience designing for interaction. They understand how people move through a digital space
- Systems-minded. They can work in and help maintain robust design systems
- Human-centered focus. Their portfolio shows problem solving for people, not just for aesthetics
- Compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects
- Knowledge of printing procedures, photography, and illustration techniques
- A strong understanding of file prep and delivery in both print and digital media

Education/Experience/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts, design, communications, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in graphic design
