Description

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Right of Way Agent who independently manages the acquisition of property rights for infrastructure and development projects. This role is responsible for negotiating with property owners, securing necessary servitudes/easements and property interests, and coordinating third-party consultants such as appraisers, abstractors, and surveyors. The position requires strong judgment, organization, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently without direct supervision. 

Requirements
  • Research property ownership and determine required property rights
  • Interpret surveys, plats, title reports, and legal descriptions
  • Contact property owners to explain project scope and impacts
  • Negotiate acquisition of easements, rights of way, and other property interests
  • Coordinate and manage external subconsultants, including:
    • Appraisers
    • Abstractors/title researchers
    • Surveyors (as needed)
  • Review appraisal and title documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare and present written offers consistent with valuation and project guidelines
  • Track acquisition status, critical dates, and documentation requirements
  • Maintain organized acquisition files and project reporting
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and legal counsel
  • Support resolution of title issues and closing processes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Preparing right of way cost estimates
  • Preparing proposals for right of way services to potential clients

  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Real Estate, Business, Engineering, or related field)
  • 3+ years of right of way, land acquisition, or real estate negotiation experience preferred
  • Experience working on state or federally funded projects preferred
  • LA DOTD experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage assignments independently
  • Experience coordinating third-party consultants
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret surveys and legal descriptions
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
