Description

The Portfolio Manager position provides the opportunity to join a well-established real estate investment firm with 38 years of industry experience.  The role works closely with senior leadership in Brookfield, WI to analyze potential dispositions and refinance opportunities across the entirety of MLG’s portfolio, and providing excellent communication to MLG’s investors. Key responsibilities will also include forecasting Fund-level distributions, capital needs, and return expectations for investors, while working closely with members of various other departments – including asset management, investor relations, and fund accounting. Other job functions include internal reporting to senior management, external investor reporting, determining quarterly distributions, performing quarterly asset and Fund-level valuations, and setting annual goals.  


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to portfolio decision-making by developing cash flow projections and sensitivity analyses used in refinancing, supplemental loan, and hold-versus-sell assessments
  • Synthesize and validate data from numerous third-party data sources to be able to report on Fund-level financial performance metrics
  • Develop and execute strategies for closed-end Private Funds and the Legacy Fund at varying stages of their life cycles
  • Leading the portfolio-wide valuation process including the development and presentation of key Fund-level performance metrics
  • Proactively identify sale and refinance opportunities to maximize investor returns and execute on each Fund’s strategy.
  • Provide senior management and investor relations team with asset-level and Fund-level performance data for written and verbal communication with investing partners
  • Oversee and optimize pricing strategies across the portfolio by evaluating market conditions, occupancy trends, revenue targets, and expense assumptions.
  • Monitor the execution of asset strategies alongside the asset management team to ensure execution of the underwritten business plan and communication of any variances with internal stakeholders
  • Evaluate actual asset-level performance against proforma underwriting, delivering detailed variance analysis and recommending strategic impact to go-forward strategy and Fund-level performance
  • Prepare and forecast property-level and Fund-level distributions, analyzing and communicating variances to internal stakeholders
  • Conduct ongoing market and macroeconomic research to inform hold/sell/refinance decisions and capital allocation
  • Identify and manage portfolio-level risks, while establishing and monitoring target return profiles by asset strategy, geography, and vintage
  • Collaborate with MLG's acquisitions team to evaluate new investments and intentionally build the portfolio in line with fund objectives, return targets, and risk parameters
Requirements
  • 4 – 6 years of prior experience in portfolio management, asset management, financial underwriting, or fund-level management involving commercial real estate. Less experience may be substituted for additional education and/or Certifications (i.e., MBA, MRE, CCIM).

Technical/Educational Requirements 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or Real Estate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Yardi or similar accounting platforms experience.
  • Additional technical skills such as Python, Power BI, SQL, advanced Excel/VBA, ARGUS, or data visualization and automation tools are considered a plus.

Technology Requirements: Ability to operate office machinery & technology; including a Microsoft Windows Laptop as well as the Microsoft office suite of products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).
