About the Client

Our client is a family-owned heavy construction company located in Fayette County. The client specializes in natural gas pipeline construction, paving and utility installation. They are considered a leader in the local construction industry.


Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of the company’s financial health. This role requires a seasoned financial leader with deep experience in construction accounting, risk management, and financial planning. The CFO will guide the financial strategy of the organization, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support the company’s growth and profitability goals. It is also essential that the CFO is emersed in all operational facets of the company and can manage multiple projects throughout the workday.

  

Financial Leadership & Strategy

· Provide strategic financial direction and leadership across all company operations and projects.

· Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls tailored to a self-performing general contractor.

· Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis to support business objectives.


Accounting & Reporting

· Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and job costing.

· Prepare and manage financial statements including P&L, balance sheets, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports.

· Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to executive leadership and stakeholders.


Project & Risk Analysis

· Collaborate with project management and estimating teams to provide project-specific financial and risk analysis.

· Monitor project financial performance and proactively address variances.


Technology & Systems Optimization

· Evaluate and enhance the use of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and proprietary systems.

· Support the development of IT strategies to improve financial and operational efficiency.


Compliance & Audits

· Guide and participate in audits including banking requirements, insurance and governmental audits.

· Ensure compliance with financial regulations and construction delivery systems.


Stakeholder Engagement

· Interface with bonding companies, insurance providers, and financial institutions.

· Coordinate and disseminate financial data across departments and to external stakeholders as needed.


Operational Excellence

· Align financial operations with field reporting, project management, and estimating functions.

· Support multi-state operations with appropriate financial strategies and compliance measures.

Requirements

 Qualifications/Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).

· Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in the construction industry.

· Deep understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and union labor financial management. 

· Proficiency in company used software. 

· Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills.

· High level of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to excellence.


Physical Requirements

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

· Ability to travel occasionally to job sites or meetings, which may include walking on uneven terrain or climbing stairs.

· Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via email.
