Role Overview

MSHS Pacific Power Group is seeking an experienced Senior Workshop Marine Diesel Technician with a proven background overhauling 4-stroke marine diesel engines — and ideally 2-stroke as well. This is not a truck shop or light equipment role. We are looking for technicians who have built their career on serious marine or heavy industrial diesel iron.

If you have spent years tearing down and rebuilding large-bore marine diesel engines, you understand precision measurement, you can read a failure before it becomes one, and you take pride in work that goes back into service right — this role was written for you.

This role consolidates engine component overhaul and cylinder head repair into one senior-level position, designed to attract technicians from commercial shipping, offshore, power generation, superyacht, or heavy industrial marine backgrounds. You will take full ownership of complex repair jobs, make independent technical decisions, and mentor less experienced technicians while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

This is a hands-on, precision-focused workshop role supporting mission-critical marine and power generation equipment. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble large-bore diesel engine components and cylinder heads to OEM specifications
  • Perform defect analysis and root cause evaluation on failed components — independently and thoroughly
  • Execute precision measurement and tolerance verification using bore gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, and surface plates
  • Repair and overhaul rotating and reciprocating assemblies including pistons, connecting rods, cylinder heads, pumps, compressors, valves, filtration systems, separators, and heat exchangers
  • Prepare clear and professional technical inspection reports
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and classification society standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, etc.) where applicable
  • Improve workshop quality, efficiency, and repair processes
  • Mentor and train junior technicians; provide technical guidance on complex repairs
  • Take full ownership of assigned jobs from teardown through final inspection and documentation

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience overhauling marine diesel engines — 4-stroke required, 2-stroke a strong plus
  • Demonstrated background in marine, commercial shipping, offshore, power generation, superyacht, or heavy industrial marine diesel environments
  • Strong experience with precision measurement, fits, tolerances, and mechanical inspection practices
  • Advanced understanding of rotating and reciprocating mechanical systems
  • Experience repairing large diesel engine components such as cylinder heads, fuel systems, pumps, compressors, or similar mechanical assemblies
  • Ability to independently diagnose wear patterns and perform mechanical failure analysis
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take full ownership of assigned jobs

Not the Right Fit For This Role

To respect everyone's time, this role is not suited for candidates whose primary experience is in:

  • Highway, OTR, or commercial truck diesel repair without marine or large-bore industrial crossover
  • Field service technician roles without workshop-based overhaul depth
  • Light equipment, small engine, or generator-only backgrounds

Desired Skills

  • Direct overhaul experience with major marine diesel OEM platforms
  • Experience working to OEM and classification society standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, etc.)
  • Experience with Alfa Laval, Westfalia, or similar marine separators
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading less experienced technicians in a workshop environment
  • Technical trade certification or formal mechanical training
  • ISO 9001 quality management experience
