Description

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Staff Engineer to join our team in our Charlotte, NC office.  Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and/or wind systems.
  • Lead electrical engineering portions of commercial projects and utilize scale solar and/or wind projects.
  • Coordinate with other project disciplines including civil engineers, geotechnical/structural engineers, and surveyors.
  • Perform electrical calculations and studies such as short circuit, load flow calculations and voltage drop.
  • Coordinate with clients, utilities, and code enforcement officers.
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of design work performed by interns, graduate engineers, and staff engineers.
  • Maintain awareness of currently available equipment and industry best practices and collaborate with and support electrical engineering teams in other offices as projects and workload sharing between offices dictates.
  • Support construction of the project by responding to contractor and owner requests including RFIs and submittal review.
Requirements

 Required Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Energy, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in design of electrical, PV, or wind systems.
  • Will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Energy, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years of experience in design of electrical, PV, or wind systems in lieu of the Master’s and three (3) years of experience requirements.
  • Additional experience must include:
    • National Electrical Code.
    • Alternating current to direct current (AC/DC) design theory.
    • AutoCAD
    • Reading construction drawings and specifications.
    • Microsoft Office.
    • Electrical system modeling software such as ETAP.
    • Electrical conductor thermal analysis software such as Cymcap.
    • PV layout software such as Helioscope.
    • Writing electrical system study reports (short circuit, arc flash, conductor sizing).
    • Photovoltaic energy modeling software such as PVSyst.
    • Analysis of photovoltaic system production guarantees.
    • Medium voltage underground circuit design and layout.
    • Battery energy storage systems (BESS) collection design and layout.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
