We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the accounting operations of multiple luxury automotive dealerships in Southern California. This role works closely with dealership leadership and the corporate accounting team to ensure financial reporting accuracy, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting processes.
The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and Regional Controller, playing an important role in maintaining financial discipline while helping support a growing organization.
This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced dealership accounting professional who is interested in developing into a Controller position over time.
Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 base salary depending on experience.
This position offers competitive guaranteed base compensation rather than bonus-based pay, providing stable and predictable earnings.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Support the daily accounting operations for assigned dealerships.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity.
- Ensure accurate deal posting and financial reporting through dealership management systems.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and review of monthly dealership financial statements.
- Support variance analysis and reporting for dealership leadership and corporate finance.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Month-End Close
- Assist with the month-end close process and preparation of balance sheet schedules.
- Ensure schedules are reconciled and maintained in a timely and organized manner.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in coordination with the Controller.
Reconciliations
- Assist with reconciliation of key operational accounts including:
- Vehicle inventory
- Parts inventory
- Contracts in transit
- Accounts receivable
- Accounts payable
- Monitor aging reports and help resolve outstanding balances.
Operational Support
- Partner with dealership department leaders to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
- Support the Controller in identifying financial trends and operational issues.
- Assist with financial analysis and reporting for dealership leadership.
Process Improvement
- Support the implementation of standardized accounting processes and controls.
- Assist with system improvements and workflow enhancements.
- Help maintain consistency and efficiency across dealership accounting functions.
Qualifications
- 2–4+ years of dealership accounting experience
- Experience in automotive retail accounting strongly preferred
- Understanding of dealership financial statements and balance sheet schedules
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Technical Skills
- Experience with dealership management systems such as CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Tekion, or similar
- Strong Excel skills including Pivot Tables, SUMIFS, and VLOOKUP
- Comfortable working with digital reporting tools and workflow systems
