Distribution Gas Engineer
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Gas Engineer to join our team in a role focused on technical leadership, quality oversight, consulting, and business development for natural gas distribution projects. This position reports directly to the Division Leader and plays a key role in supporting the strategic growth of Westwood’s gas utility services.
The Distribution Gas Engineer will provide technical expertise, quality assurance, and client-facing consulting services related to the planning, design, and improvement of natural gas distribution systems. This role will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support business development efforts by helping expand relationships with existing clients and identifying opportunities with new clients across the U.S.

Report directly to the Division Leader and support the strategic growth of the gas utility practice through technical leadership, consulting, and client engagement.
- Serve as a technical advisor and subject matter expert for natural gas distribution system planning, design, and operations.
- Support engineering reviews, design audits, and quality control processes to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Provide consulting services to clients related to gas distribution system improvements, modernization programs, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure planning.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposal development, client presentation development, and scope development.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients while identifying new opportunities for growth in the gas utility market.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff supporting gas distribution projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions for utility clients.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Multi-Disciplinary Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- 7+years of experience in natural gas distribution engineering, pipeline engineering, or utility infrastructure consulting.
- Strong understanding of natural gas distribution systems, including pipelines, regulators, meter stations, and associated facilities.
- Experience with engineering quality control processes and technical review of engineering deliverables.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to clients, leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to balance technical responsibilities, consulting work, and business development efforts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
Preferred Experience
- Experience with PHMSA regulations (49 CFR Part 192), ASME B31.8, and other applicable gas pipeline safety standards.
- Experience supporting utility consulting, strategic planning, or infrastructure modernization programs.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS platforms, gas system modeling tools, and utility engineering software.
- Experience supporting proposal development, client relationship management, and market expansion efforts within the utility sector.
