Job Description
The Senior RFID & Automation Solutions Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex RFID, IoT, and automation solutions for DecisionPoint Technologies’ customers across the United States and Canada. These solutions are primarily deployed in manufacturing, warehousing, retail, food, and supply chain logistics environments.
This role owns the technical delivery and outcome of RFID and automation solutions across the full lifecycle, from pre-sales solution design and architecture through deployment, stabilization, and long-term production support. The Senior Engineer serves as a technical authority on assigned projects, working independently with minimal oversight and acting as a trusted advisor to customers.
The position requires close collaboration with customer stakeholders, internal engineering and sales teams, and hardware OEM and ISV partners to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Lead pre-sales technical engagements by working with customers and the DecisionPoint Technologies sales team to understand business challenges and design complete RFID and automation solutions that deliver measurable ROI.
- Lead customer discovery sessions to assess operational workflows, technical constraints, and system integration requirements.
- Own end-to-end technical solution design, including hardware selection, RF design considerations, system architecture, and integration strategy.
- Develop and maintain project plans including deliverables, goals and objectives, level of effort, risks, dependencies, and milestones.
- Define, document, and validate all required software, hardware, networking, and operational changes necessary to meet project objectives.
- Lead site surveys, proofs-of-concept, pilots, and full-scale deployments through customer acceptance.
- Determine optimal hardware design and configuration for each solution, including technologies such as RAIN RFID, RTLS, BLE, IoT sensors, machine vision, and robotics.
- Install, configure, validate, and support RFID, IoT, and automation software for fixed and mobile devices in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex implementation and post-deployment issues, performing root-cause analysis and coordinating resolution with internal teams, OEMs, and ISV partners.
- Provide ongoing technical support for production systems, ensuring system stability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Produce accurate “as-built” documentation to support ongoing customer operations, support, and future enhancements.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers through design reviews, troubleshooting assistance, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of delivery standards, best practices, reference architectures, and reusable solution patterns.
- Support internal initiatives and continuous improvement efforts based on field experience and customer feedback.
Job Competency
- Deep technical knowledge of RFID systems, RF environments, IoT architectures, and automation technologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across integrated hardware, software, networking, and operational systems.
- Experience supporting mission-critical production environments and balancing customer urgency with structured problem resolution.
- Ability to independently lead complex technical workstreams and make sound architectural decisions.
- Strong project management, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build credibility and trust with technical and operational stakeholders.
- Team-oriented approach with a willingness to mentor others and contribute to collective success.
- MS SQL Server, Linux, and JavaScript experience preferred.
Skills & ExperienceRequired
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting RFID and automation solutions in production environments.
- Strong experience with RAIN RFID and AIDC technologies.
- Experience delivering complex or multi-site RFID deployments.
- Working knowledge of networking infrastructure, system integrations, and hybrid cloud/on-prem environments.
- Ability to travel up to 50%, including Canada.
