Description

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver rigorous, age-appropriate lessons aligned with South Carolina standards for Grades 5–8.

- Support the unique developmental needs of early adolescents through engaging instructional strategies, cooperative learning, and advisory structures.

- Use a variety of assessments, quizzes, performance tasks, projects, and formative checks — to guide instruction and personalize learning.

- Implement instructional routines that build critical thinking, problem-solving, literacy across content areas, and academic ownership.

- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design integrated units and support cross-curricular learning experiences.

- Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, behavior, and academic expectations.

- Incorporate technology, digital tools, and interactive resources to enhance student engagement.

- Monitor and support students’ social-emotional development, including conflict resolution, organizational skills, and self-advocacy.

- Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings when applicable, and schoolwide professional learning communities.

- Maintain accurate academic records, behavior logs, and documentation required by school and district policies.

- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities.

- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator



Requirements

Required Qualifications

- Valid South Carolina Middle Level certification in: 

  • Middle Level Language Arts (5–8)
  • Middle Level Mathematics (5–8)
  • Middle Level Science (5–8)
  • Middle Level Social Studies (5–8)

- Bachelor’s degree with completion of an approved educator preparation curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with interdisciplinary teams or middle-grade teaming structures.

- Training in adolescent development, project-based learning, or integrated literacy practices.
