The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for an Primary Division Lead Teacher- 2nd Grade.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Evergreen School is seeking an engaging and compassionate educator to join our Primary Division team (grades 1-3). We are looking for someone with a passion for working with highly capable students. The teacher in this role  (grade 2) is responsible for teaching a variety of core classes using a wide range of instructional tools, technology,  and resources, including project-based and experiential learning opportunities. The successful candidate will have a collaborative approach to teaching an engaging and challenging program to highly capable students with individual learning styles and needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning
    • Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and inquiry-based curriculum for students in grades 1-3, aligned with divisional goals and school-wide scope and sequence.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of highly capable and diverse learners.
    • Establish clear learning objectives and maintain accurate, organized records of student progress and development in alignment with school policies, legal requirements, and accreditation standards.
    • Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction, provide timely feedback, and communicate student progress to families.
    • Prepare comprehensive narrative evaluation reports twice annually (January and June).
    • Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, independence, collaboration, respect, inclusivity, and a growth mindset.
    • Integrate social-emotional learning, community-building practices, and inclusive instructional strategies.
    • Maintain proficiency in and effectively integrate relevant classroom technology.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate closely with grade-level team members to develop and implement cohesive curriculum and ensure alignment across classrooms.
    • Partner with specialists (learning support, counseling, DEIB, etc.) to support student success and well-being.
    • Communicate proactively, professionally, and consistently with families regarding student learning, growth, and needs.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, written communications, and school events.
    • Collaborate with colleagues across divisions to support continuity and a shared understanding of student development.
    • Work with the Division Head to support program development, initiatives, and divisional priorities.
    • Mentor and support colleagues through modeling, coaching, and collaborative planning.
    • Actively contribute to grade-level, divisional, and school-wide meetings, curriculum reviews, and reflective practice.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Attend school, department, team, and parent meetings, as well as required school events.
    • Participate in extracurricular and community events (e.g., admissions events, curriculum nights, overnight camps), including occasional evenings and weekends.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
    • Uphold school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and prioritize student health, safety, and well-being.
    • Contribute positively to the school’s culture, values, and mission.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree and WA teaching certificate preferred.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience teaching at the elementary level, preferably in grades 1-3.
    • Experience in an independent school environment is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in creating developmentally appropriate, child-centered learning experiences.

    • Deep understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education.
    • Strong instructional skills, including differentiation and assessment-driven teaching.
    • Ability to lead collaboratively, coach colleagues, and contribute to team-based decision-making.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
    • Facility with educational technology and learning management systems.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with classroom setup or moving materials.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and school hallways for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and escort students as needed between locations within and outside school buildings.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required at times

Position Details:

This is an exempt, 1.0 FTE full-time, benefits-eligible position. The salary range for an Evergreen School teacher is $71,500 to $123,920 per year, depending on degree(s) and years of experience.
