Avesta Housing is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Vice President of Finance to serve as a key member of our executive leadership team, guiding the organization’s financial strategy in support of stable operations, responsible growth, and meaningful community impact.


In this executive role, you’ll lead enterprise-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management while overseeing accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leaders to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable guidance that supports smart decision-making and sound governance. Every day, your leadership will help align financial resources with Avesta’s mission of creating and maintaining quality, affordable homes for people in need.

  • Ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial audiences. 
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and relationship-management skills. 
  • Ability to influence decisions, build trust, and collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-level priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Sound problem-solving, risk-assessment, and decision-making skills. 


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field required. 
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, public administration, or a related field preferred. 
  • Equivalent combination of advanced education and executive-level relevant experience may be considered. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in finance, accounting, business strategy, or related executive management roles. 
  • Significant experience leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and organizational financial strategy. 
  • Experience overseeing accounting operations and using financial information to guide executive and Board-level decision-making. 
  • Experience in nonprofit, social enterprise, public-sector, affordable housing, healthcare, or similarly mission-driven and operationally complex environments strongly preferred. 
  • Experience supporting strategic growth initiatives, financing strategies, business partnerships, or other enterprise-level business planning efforts preferred. 
  • Experience presenting to Boards, Finance Committees, lenders, investors, and other external stakeholders preferred. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position, and the starting annual salary range is $175,000 - $200,000.



Work Location 

While the Vice President of Finance’s work may be largely performed from home, the person in this role is also expected to maintain a presence at our main office, located at 307 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, Maine.

Salary Description
$175,000 - $200,000
