Description

The Assistant Athletic Director serves as a key administrative leader within the Gilbert Christian High School athletic department. This role expands leadership capacity, strengthens operational oversight, and supports the long-term sustainability of the Knight Nation athletic program. It allows the Athletic Director to focus on strategic leadership, coach development, and program growth while ensuring that daily operations run smoothly.


Strategic Purpose of Role 


This role helps create leadership margin and strengthen the athletic department by:

  • Allowing the Athletic Director to focus on strategic leadership and program growth
  • Improving event supervision and operational oversight
  • Strengthening communication and decision-making structures
  • Reducing institutional risk during athletic events
  • Providing consistent administrative presence within the athletics program

Spiritual Leadership

  • Model Christ-like character in attitude, speech, and actions through a daily walk with Jesus Christ
  • Demonstrate the importance of Scripture study, prayer, witnessing, and Christian fellowship
  • Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian worldview into athletics
  • Lead devotions for coaching staff
  • Pray with and provide spiritual guidance to students when appropriate
  • Follow Matthew 18 principles when addressing concerns

Athletic Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and leadership of the high school athletic department
  • Maintain the athletic calendar for games, practices, and team events
  • Build and manage game schedules in collaboration with head coaches
  • Confirm officials, opponents, and event logistics
  • Coordinate athletic events and supervise games as assigned
  • Represent the school at AIA scheduling meetings when directed
  • Support evaluation of short- and long-range program needs
  • Assist in resolving operational issues within the athletic program

Event Operations and Risk Management

  • Provide on-site administrative supervision at athletic events
  • Support AIA compliance and athletic regulations
  • Assist with safety protocols and crowd management
  • Monitor facilities and operational risks during athletic activities

Communications

  • Maintain effective communication with coaches, students, parents, and staff
  • Support promotion of athletics through the website and social media
  • Uphold the athletic conduct code and expectations for sportsmanship
  • Encourage student involvement in athletic programs
  • Promote academic success among student-athletes

Professional Expectations

  • Demonstrate strong Christian leadership and integrity
  • Work collaboratively as part of the school leadership team
  • Remain knowledgeable about AIA bylaws and regulations
  • Pursue professional growth opportunities
  • Be available for evening and weekend athletic events as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist with supervision and evaluation of athletic staff and coaches
  • Promote a Christ-centered culture across athletic programs
  • Ensure alignment with the mission and Statement of Faith of Gilbert Christian Schools

Campus Culture: 

  • Contribute to building a positive culture for students and staff 
  • Contribute to an increase in student school spirit 
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree obtained, willing/actively pursuing a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership or similar
  • Three years of coaching experience 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable and able to work with a variety of people
  • Growing in his or her personal relationship with Christ. 
  • Must align with the vision and values of Gilbert Christian Schools and the Statement of Faith
  • Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of Gilbert Christian Schools,  students, employees, defined by the Employee Handbook


Physical Requirements 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, walk; use hands  to finger handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop,  kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to forty pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral  vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
