The Diesel Mechanic II is an intermediate role specializing in troubleshooting and repairing more complex mechanical and electrical systems on Class 8 trucks and trailers. This position requires strong technical skills, proficiency in diagnostics, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, and electrical systems for Class 8 trucks and trailers.
- Conduct mid-level preventative maintenance and ensure equipment meets all DOT and company compliance standards.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to accurately identify and resolve technical and mechanical issues.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities in the maintenance system with precision and timeliness.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Assist in ensuring the overall performance and reliability of the fleet.
- Other duties assigned by the Shop Manager.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel repair and maintenance, specifically on Class 8 equipment.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software, tools and an in-depth understanding of Class 8 vehicle systems.
- Must have a toolbox and familiarity with its proper use in a maintenance environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and organizational abilities.
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
