Position Summary

The Phlebotomist plays a vital role in patient care by performing blood collection procedures with skill, accuracy, and compassion. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and committed to creating a positive experience for patients—many of whom may feel anxious or unwell. This role requires both technical proficiency and strong interpersonal skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures using safe, proper techniques
  • Accurately label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis in accordance with established protocols
  • Ensure a positive patient experience by verifying patient identity, explaining procedures clearly, and providing reassurance and comfort
  • Maintain clean, sanitary work areas and follow all infection control, safety, and privacy standards
  • Accurately enter patient information and laboratory orders into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system

Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification: Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • Experience: Prior experience in a clinical or laboratory setting strongly preferred
  • Skills: 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
    • Comfort working in a fast-paced healthcare environment
    • Proficiency in—or willingness to learn—electronic medical record systems
