The Safety and Support Specialist is a multifaceted role that involves maintaining a safe and secure environment, supporting outreach efforts to individuals experiencing homelessness, and providing transportation when required.
The role requires flexibility, situational awareness, and a compassionate approach to engaging with vulnerable populations. Individuals in this position play a key part in ensuring daily operations run smoothly while upholding the organization’s mission of service and dignity
Security Officer
- Monitor and ensure the security of premises and personnel
- Conduct regular patrols and inspections of facilities and grounds
- Conduct security checks and monitor security cameras
- Respond to crises and emergencies promptly
- Enforce company policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment
- Report and document incidents and safety concerns
- Collaborate with local law enforcement when necessary
Outreach Support Worker
- Assist program participants with accessing services and resources, including but not limited to showers, laundry, and mail services
- Perform outreach duties at different locations within the tri-county area as needed
- Engage with community members to provide support, resources, and information
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders
Driver (as needed)
- Safely operate company vehicles to transport program participants, materials, or equipment
- Transport company trailers to various locations for outreach operations as needed
- Conduct vehicle inspections and maintenance checks as needed
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials or equipment as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant certifications or higher education is a plus
- Proven experience in security, driving, or outreach roles preferred
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Class D Security license
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stressful situations effectively
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and tasks
Preferences
- Experience in working with the homeless population
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, sprint, run, and patrol for extended periods
- Must hear and see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead
- A considerable amount of time making repetitive motions
- Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with customers
- Ability to function with frequent temperature changes between indoors and out
- Work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
- Stand and walk continuously for up to 8-10 hours during a shift while providing customer care
