Description

 PURPOSE: To assist truck driver with daily tasks and safety. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Tasks:

  • Assist driver to inspect vehicle prior to leaving the facility.
  •  Assist driver with radio communication while vehicle is in motion
  • Provide assistance while driver maneuvers truck to park, back up, or other at all times.
  •  Remain focused and alert to all street signs, pedestrians, and other road hazards.
  • Report all property damage immediately and complete written accident reports and proceed as instructed by the dispatcher.
  • Follow all directives of driver, dispatcher and management.
  • Load, secure and unload donated goods, in a safe manner.
  • Work cooperatively as a team with driver to prevent bodily and property injury
  • Assist driver to verify and complete all issued pick-up tickets.
  • Conduct self in a safe manner, report all work-related injuries immediately.
  • Present a friendly, cooperative attitude to donors and general public at all times.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

ยท Before the start of the shift verify that you have the following: Steel toe boots and gloves

  • Perform      warm-up stretches before starting your regular duties daily.
  • Verify that your truck has the      proper working equipment such as: hand truck, piano dolly, ropes,      safety-wheel chock.
  • If there are any deliveries on the      truck, make sure that they are complete; they are securely and safely tied      down.
  • All drivers and helpers must always      wear seatbelts when inside the truck; not doing so will result in      immediate disciplinary action, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • In any abnormal parking situation      check in with the dispatcher for approval and make sure you are      maintaining a safe working environment.
  • When you are at a delivery or      donation pick up, always practice proper lifting techniques when loading      and unloading items to and from the truck. Use proper safety techniques      and procedures at all times.
  • You must take your lunch and breaks      on time before returning to base. You are entitled to take a 15 minute      break after 2 hours from your starting time; you are entitled to take a 30      minute lunch after 4-5 hours from your starting time; you are entitled to      a second break 6 hours after your starting time.
  • You must follow the safety      procedure of NOT going through any donations, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Upon arrival to base, open gate and      guide driver as he backs up tuck to the dock. 
  • Safety ramp must be placed between      the truck and dock before you commence unloading. Proper safety technique      must be used when unloading.
  • Assist driver in verifying all the      safety equipment of the truck is still in usable condition and ready to be      used the following day before the end of the shift.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

  • Requires ability to rapidly and constantly lift large and heavy items and to repeatedly load and unload large furniture throughout shift.
  • Stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  •  Must be able to lift minimum of 50lbs without assistance and push and pull up to 100lbs.
  • Regular and on-time attendance is critical; hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week.
