Who We ArePawnee Mental Health Services partners directly with local schools to bring trauma-informed, evidence-based mental health care to students where they are every day. Our School-Based Services team works side by side with educators, families, and community supports to help children and adolescents overcome challenges that impact learning, behavior, and emotional well-being.

What We OfferAs an SBS Intern, you will gain hands-on exposure to school-based mental health, collaboration within educational systems, and trauma-informed interventions. You will see how therapy, advocacy, and teamwork come together to support students in meaningful ways.
Opportunities are available for both bachelor’s and master’s level students. Responsibilities will align with your education level, experience, and supervision requirements.

The Role You’ll Play

As a School-Based Services Intern, you will be part of a team that supports K–12 students navigating emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges.
Bachelor’s level interns may focus on skill-building support, behavioral interventions, classroom collaboration, and assisting with therapeutic groups.
Master’s level interns may engage in higher-level clinical responsibilities such as conducting intakes, supporting diagnostic assessments, and providing individual, group, or family therapy under supervision.
No matter your level, you will be actively involved, supported through supervision, and treated as a valued member of the clinical team.
What You’ll Do:Responsibilities may vary based on program level and supervision structure, but may include:

  • Support delivery of trauma-informed services in school and community settings
  • Assist with or provide individual and group interventions
  • Help develop and implement person-centered treatment plans
  • Collaborate with school staff and families to support student success
  • Participate in IEP, SIT, and trauma-responsive planning meetings as appropriate
  • Monitor student progress and assist with ongoing assessment
  • Complete timely, professional documentation  
Work Environment

This role is primarily school-based and requires travel to assigned school sites. You will work directly with children and adolescents and collaborate closely with educators and clinical staff. The environment is fast-paced, relationship-driven, and centered around supporting students in moments that truly matter.

Requirements

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s level program in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively while remaining self-directed
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening
Salary Description
$7.25/ hour
