Who We ArePawnee Mental Health Services provides compassionate, community-based behavioral health care to individuals and families across our region. Our Crisis team plays a critical role in supporting individuals during moments of acute need and helping connect them to ongoing care.

What We Offer

This internship provides hands-on experience in crisis services within a multidisciplinary team. Interns gain valuable exposure to acute care coordination, behavioral health support, and professional development in a real-world setting. 

The Role You’ll Play

As a Crisis Intern, you will support the daily operations of the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) by helping maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. You will work closely with licensed staff and gain practical experience in crisis response and client support.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct support and supervision to clients in the CSU
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment
  • Conduct safety checks and document observations
  • Support clients with daily living activities, including meals and hygiene
  • Lead psychosocial groups and structured activities as directed
  • Help de-escalate crisis situations using trauma-informed techniques
  • Monitor and report changes in client status under supervision
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transitions
  • Complete accurate documentation in the electronic health record
  • Collaborate with nursing, therapy, case management, and psychiatric staff
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all agency policies
  • Complete required training and other assigned duties

Work Environment

This position involves on-site work in a high-intensity crisis setting and occasional community-based work. Interns work with individuals of all ages in acute crisis situations. Shifts may include evenings, nights, and weekends, and the role requires physical activity and direct client interaction.

Requirements

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master's level program in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening
Salary Description
$7.25/Hour
