As a Telecom Network Engineer at FOCUS Broadband, your primary focus is designing, analyzing, managing, and maintaining the service provider transport network and associated services. You are vital in supporting the team by creating scalable, maintainable, and highly available network architectures that meet and exceed customer requirements. Success in this position is tied to your commitment to FOCUS Broadband's mission of sustaining data and telecommunication connectivity, encompassing voice, video, broadband, and transport services within a dynamic and productive environment. Candidates must possess a solid understanding of routing and switching and a technical aptitude to excel in this role.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in implementing the service provider network infrastructure, including routers, switches, access and transport equipment, and other network hardware and software.
- Configure and document basic-to-intermediate level router, switch, and access network equipment changes with minimal direction.
- Provide basic-to-intermediate configuration, troubleshooting, and problem mitigation on all Service Provider-related services and equipment.
- Assist in developing and maintaining network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- Monitor and analyze network performance to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.
- Resolve network-related issues and respond to questions regarding network operations and maintenance for customers, internal teams, and vendors.
- Deliver professional, courteous, and responsive customer service and technical support to internal departments, field operations, and internal/external customers.
- Provide technical guidance, procedures/instructions, and knowledge sharing to lower-level engineers.
- Follow network engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technical teams to implement network solutions and ensure interoperability with other systems and applications.
- Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies in telecom networking and incorporate them into the network infrastructure where appropriate.
- Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to provide coverage and support for the Data Services Group, including overtime with or without advance notice, to support network maintenance, outage response, and critical business needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain regular and timely attendance.
- Perform other duties/special projects as required.
- Complete required job documentation and reports.
- Travel for training and/or network support, including overnight travel.
- Participate on behalf of the company in community and company-sponsored activities as requested.
- Attend safety meetings; complete safety and security trainings; and maintain a safe working environment.
- Actively maintain and enhance job-related knowledge and skills through ongoing professional learning and development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Active CCNA or JNCIA certification, or 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches in a Service Provider network environment preferred. Selected candidates will be expected to earn and maintain the appropriate certification during employment if they do not have it upon hire.
- Must maintain a good driving record and a valid driver’s license.
