Summary:


Holy Spirit Catholic School is hiring a Library Manager to fulfill the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Manager is immediately responsible to the Principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.


The Library Manager maintains a professionally operated library with a welcoming and helpful atmosphere in which caring is encouraged, reading is fostered, and knowledge may grow. The Library Manager partners with teachers and students in the pursuit of learning through the use of library media center materials and equipment. The Library Manager provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school’s instructional program.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Encourages the use of the library by faculty and students
  • Follows school policies in selecting materials
  • Organizes the circulation of library materials
  • Provides library services and materials to meet the needs of teachers and students
  • Maintains library records, statistics, and database
  • Weeds the materials collection
  • Selects the materials for rebinding and repair
  • Insures volume number and references are in compliance with accreditation standards
  • Takes inventory, and keeps the library in order
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Important Job Functions

  • Maintains good relationships and works cooperatively with many people, such as principals, pastors, clergy, archdiocesan officials, department heads, supervisors, fellow teachers, teacher aides, students, parents, secretaries, and custodians, in planning activities and policies relating to the school
  • Maintains liaison with parents including, but not limited to, holding informal meetings with parents at school or conducting formal parent conferences
  • Keeps abreast of advances in education, particularly by reading recent publications in his or her subject matter or field

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Required to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather

Skills

  • Substantial library experience, with experience of working with schools or with children
  • Community links - experience of liaising with local literacy events and promoting them in school
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
  • Must have good written and verbal skills
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Associate degree or sixty college hours preferred.
  • Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, awareness of trends in children/young adult literature, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children/young adult literature books, and basic reference skills.
