The Distribution Center Director is responsible for providing input to the Chief Operations Officer for departmental strategic and operations planning, financial management, operational reporting and communication, fleet management, departmental process improvement, compliance, and inventory management.
The Distribution Center Director oversees the Distribution Center operations to ensure that all incoming and outgoing products are processed according to schedule. Other duties include preparing schedules for Warehouse Clerks, training new team members on how to use machinery and monitoring compliance with health and safety standards. The Distribution Center Director also oversees the general cleaning and maintenance of the distribution center, trucks and grounds.
SOME ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the Distribution Center operations.
• Budgeting and implementing practices to assure the financial performance of the Distribution Center.
• Oversight of external sales development team supporting them to meet Distribution Center sales and profitability goals.
• Oversight of transportation staff and route setting. Maintain Department of Transportation procedures as required by law.
• Hiring and supervision of all Distribution Center staff.
• Maintain Food Safety procedures as required by regulatory laws and La Montañita Food Cooperative’s standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate and the liaison between the Distribution Center and internal La Montañita Food Cooperative team members and customers.
• Coordinate and liaison between the Distribution Center and external customers and vendors with the goal of creating strong mutually supportive relationships to spur growth of local businesses.
• Manage Distribution Center product purchasing, inventory control, and pricing integrity.
• Educator for the community around Food Shed and local value chain topics as well as other projects related to food distribution.
• Preparing and administering performance evaluations for assigned team members.
• Complete reports and projects as assigned related to the operations of the Distribution Center as needed.
• Responsible for coordinating building maintenance.
• Maintain food hub credentials including but not limited to USDA HGAP, FSIF, and FDA registrations.
• Represent the Co-op in NM Farmers’ Marketing Association, NM Grown Program and Regional Farm to Food Bank Programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience working in distribution center with 2 years as a supervisor.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; actively listen and get clarification; write clearly and informatively; present numerical and qualitative data effectively; read and interpret written information accurately.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word and Quickbooks.
- Excellent planning, organization, and customer service skills (internally/externally).
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible in completing job duties while adhering to deadlines.
- Excellent degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work flexible schedule (weekday/weekend and daytime/evening shifts as needed).
- Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate with individuals of diverse background.
- Ability to adhere and follow safety and wellness guidelines. Safety Conscious and adhering to required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required.
