Description

 

· Ensure stories are factually correct, impartial, grammatically sound, and written clearly and concisely.

· Post stories to the CMS platform, mobile app platform, national platforms via NPR and others.

· Edit both online and broadcast stories, in coordination/collaboration with the News Director

· Serve as the primary editor/point of contact when the News Director is unavailable, carrying out essential newsroom-oriented tasks.

· Facilitate news distribution on social platforms: YouTube, Instagram, others.

· Collaborate with the Audience Editor to regularly produce digital reports/data to help the newsroom identify trends across the region we cover.

· Provide continuing education for staff in best digital news practices including effective online writing, SEO, headline optimization, etc.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


 Organizational Relationships:

· Internal: Strong collaborative relationships with the newsroom and content staff, and all departments across WITF.

· External: Working relationships with NPR and other content providers, public media stations across Pennsylvania, and other newsrooms including SpotlightPA, VoteBeat, Pennsylvania Capital-Star, etc.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

· Proven skills in data analysis and reporting.

· Thorough knowledge of social media best practices and digital trends.

· Experience working in audience engagement.

· Experience writing and editing news stories on deadline for website, broadcast, and social channels.

· Experience with enterprise/investigative reporting and data analysis and presentations.

· Commitment to the mission of public broadcasting, including participation in on-air fund drives and live events.

Requirements

 

· Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

· On-air experience, preferably in public media

· Spanish language skills

· Knowledge of Central Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania government

· Content collaboration experience

· Understanding and use of metrics in decision-making

· Comfort in switching between platforms for broadcast, text, and video.

Salary Description
63,000 - 66,000 / year
