Mechanic – Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

Miller Environmental Group (MEG) is seeking experienced Mechanics to support the maintenance and reliability of our fleet and operational equipment. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and equipment used in environmental remediation, industrial cleaning, and hazardous waste operations.
This role supports both scheduled maintenance and urgent repair needs, including emergency response situations where rapid equipment readiness is critical. The work requires strong mechanical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to safety and operational uptime.

- Starting pay: $30/hour+, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance on company vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, filters, lubrication, and inspections
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel and gasoline engines
- Service and repair braking systems, suspension systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic components
- Maintain and repair vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, box trucks, trailers, and support vehicles
- Conduct inspections and troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of maintenance and repairs
- Coordinate with operations teams to schedule maintenance and reduce equipment downtime
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company safety procedures
- Assist with emergency repairs as operational needs require, including field or roadside service
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
- Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience servicing commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery (or equivalent experience)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
- Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for fleet vehicles
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple repair tasks
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and perform physically demanding work
- Must pass a post-offer drug screen and background check in accordance with applicable law
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) a plus
- Experience with hydraulic systems and environmental service equipment a plus
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Work is performed primarily in a maintenance shop with occasional field or roadside service calls
- Exposure to heavy equipment, moving machinery, and mechanical systems such as engines, pumps, generators, and vacuum systems
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or awkward positions
- Regular use of hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity and coordination
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of heavy tools, parts, and equipment (50–75 lbs)
- Ability to climb ladders, access elevated equipment, and work underneath vehicles for extended periods
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels when equipment is operating
- Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and protective clothing
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when performing field repairs
