Position Summary
The 3rd Shift Extrusion Supervisor is responsible for leading overnight extrusion operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees extrusion operators, coordinates production activities, troubleshoots equipment issues, and maintains alignment with company standards for safety, quality, and performance. The supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining production continuity and setting the tone for accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence during off-hours.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Oversee all extrusion operations during 3rd shift to ensure production targets are met.
- Monitor machine performance, throughput, and material usage to optimize efficiency.
- Coordinate startup, shutdown, and changeovers of extrusion lines.
- Troubleshoot processing and equipment issues and escalate to maintenance when necessary.
- Ensure proper documentation of production data, downtime, and output.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, coach, and develop extrusion operators and support Plant Supervisor.
- Assign work, manage staffing levels, and ensure proper shift coverage in coordination with Plant Supervisor.
- Set clear expectations for performance, accountability, and behavior.
- Address performance issues, provide feedback, and participate in disciplinary actions when needed.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety policies, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards immediately.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate with Plant Supervisor for incident response and reporting for any accidents or near misses.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure all products meet quality specifications and customer requirements.
- Work closely with Quality Control to address defects and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain adherence to ISO standards and internal quality systems.
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities to plant leadership.
- Ensure smooth transition between shifts through detailed shift handoffs.
- Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and other departments to resolve issues quickly.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
- Support implementation of process improvements and standard work.
- Train team members on best practices and new procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade education preferred.
- 3–5+ years of experience in extrusion or plastics manufacturing (preferred).
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of extrusion processes, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues in real time.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead effectively during off-shift hours.
Salary Description
$23 -27/hr
