High School English Teacher
Description

SUMMARY


This individual teaches four English classes, three standard and one Honors section, during 45-minute regular periods (1 day a week) and 85-minute block periods (4 days a week). Engages students in reading, writing, research, discussion, and critical thinking as they explore language and the power of ideas with a sense of wonder. Experience teaching Honors and/or AP courses is preferable. As part of our Junior American Literature curriculum, history may be considered part of the teaching assignment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Writes clear lesson plans with anticipatory sets, activities, and closures. Plan interactive lessons for students to engage with the texts firsthand. Composes clear, interactive lessons with understandable explanations of key concepts. Develops activities that reinforce students' learning. Integrates a sense of awe and wonder of God’s handiwork and design with language and rhetoric.
  • Interacts with students as individuals in a compassionate, professional manner. Guides students into becoming mature, thoughtful, responsible, compassionate young adults who reflect the heart of Jesus. Creates high expectations for learning while also taking into account students' individual challenges.
  • Maintains accurate records of grades and contacts parents when students drop below satisfactory achievement. Creates resources for students on Blackbaud Lions Den.
  • Maintains an orderly classroom that fosters wonder and beauty. Develops variety in lessons to honor students' multiple intelligences.
  • Participates in Thursday morning devotions and staff meetings. Participates in monthly English department meetings and professional development. Meets with a mentor teacher in order to revise and grow within the culture of our school. Plans and leads a small group of students twice a month. Integrates themselves into the culture of our school; our mission, academics, extracurricular activities, and relationships.
Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English or a related field within the language arts.


SPECIFIC SKILLS DESIRED

  • Has experience with Honors or AP classes
