Description

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision and training of the Maintenance Manager, the Custodian is responsible for performing routine custodial and basic maintenance tasks throughout Park District facilities, parks, and recreational areas. This position ensures that park grounds, buildings, and amenities are maintained in a safe, clean, and welcoming condition for the public.


Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily litter pickup, garbage removal, and recycling activities throughout assigned areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain park shelters, restrooms, and assigned Park District buildings.
  • Conduct general park maintenance, including debris removal, mulching, and seasonal grounds care.
  • Maintain assigned parks by mowing grass, weed trimming, edging, and related grounds-keeping activities.
  • Assist in the upkeep of athletic facilities, including ball fields, tennis courts, and related areas.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance measures on Park District facilities, fleet, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate and support Park District customer service standards through courteous and professional interactions with patrons and staff.
  • Follow all district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures, and ordinances.
  • Actively engage in continuing education, professional associations, and certifications (e.g., CPRP/CPRE or equivalent) to remain current with best practices, industry standards, and legislative changes impacting Illinois park districts.
  • Performs other related duties to meet the district's Mission and Vision. 


Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or grounds maintenance experience, preferred.
  • Must be able to pass the OSHA 40-hour training as required by law.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required.
