Director - Football Operations
Description

The ACC Director of Football Operations is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management and 

administration of ACC football regular season competition. The position reports to the Senior Vice 

President - Football, and will be responsible for the following:


Responsibilities:

•  Serve as the Conference’s primary, day-to-day point of contact for support staffs at all ACC 

football programs, building outstanding working relationships with such key constituent groups as:

     - Directors of Football Operations

     - Football Game Managers

     - Video Coordinators

     - Equipment Managers

•  Manage all details associated with administering the ACC football regular season, including but 

not limited to:

     - Coordinating the annual production and dissemination of the ACC Football Operations Manual.

     - Managing all aspects of Conference-administered game-related technology (e.g., “O2O” 

communication technology, Coach-to-Player technology, In-Game Video technology, enhanced instant 

replay access, etc.)

     - Developing, executing, and evaluating ACC regular-season policies and procedures and game 

       operations matters.

     - Execute all weekly in-season football operations duties, including but not limited to 

       coordination of game administration, game recaps and reports, and oversight of game day staffing 

       and auxiliary personnel to ensure smooth and consistent operations across the conference.

•  Oversee weekly communications, reporting, and policy fulfillment activities, including but not 

limited to engagement with member institutions and conference stakeholders, distribution of 

training materials, facilitation of meetings, and processing of officiating payments, invoices, and 

required NCAA documentation.

•  Assist with the successful operation of the Conference’s Game Day Operations Center, including 

but not limited to:

     - IT Support with stadiums

     - DVSport/Vendor Management

     - All-30 Camera Management

•  In collaboration with the member institutions, supervise, manage, and coordinate all Game Day 

staff positions, including but not limited to medical observers, chain crews, play clock/game clock 

operators, football technology coordinators, media liaisons/red hats, instant replay 

operators/technicians, and replay sideline assistants.

•  Assist the Senior Vice President – Football with the development of the annual ACC

football budget.

•  Assist the Senior Vice President – Football with administration and fulfillment of the 

Conference’s bowl agreements, including specifically:

     - Managing the annual ACC Bowl Operations Summit

     - Coordinating the receipt and distribution of all bowl manuals and ticket manifests

     - Ensuring all NCAA and ACC football operations details are accommodated by all ACC bowl partners, 

        including but not limited to C2P, IGV, and Instant Replay.

•  Manage Conference planning associated with Spring Football and the ACCN pre-season practice 

“Road Trip.”

•  Collaborate with the Vice President – Sport Technology & Innovation to optimize the ACC’s 

utilization of technology for the betterment of ACC football, both in-venue and in the ACC Game Day 

Operations Center (GDOC).

•  Support the ACC Supervisor of Football Officials and the Manager of Officiating Administration 

to ensure the needs of football game officials and the football officiating program are met.

•  Promote relationships between and among the Conference Office staff and each of the league’s 

member institutions’ athletic administrators and football staff.

•  Assist the Senior Vice President - Football with developing plans on a national level 

that:

     - promote the Conference, its branding message as well as its member institutions;

     - cultivate relationships with external constituents and partners; and

     - enhance the prestige, positioning, and posturing of the Conference.

•  Assist the Senior Vice President - Football in investigating any football-related incidents 

which may affect the Conference or be in violation of either the Conference Student-Athlete Code of 

Conduct or policy manual and recommend appropriate disciplinary action.

•  Administer support to certified event promoters, both pre- and post-season.

•  Represent the Conference at select football functions and events as assigned.


ACC Football Championship Game

•  Serve as the Game Manager, overseeing all administrative and operational details and policies 

associated with the management and successful execution of the annual ACC Football Championship 

Game.

•  Collaborate with internal ACC staff and third parties on the management of related ancillary 

events and ensure that all ACC football operations policies and procedures are implemented.

•  Coordinate and plan all pre-championship calls and communications including but not limited 

to:

     - Championship game materials (game manual, facility & stadium operation plans, event staffing and 

       transportation, budgets, etc.), officials, entry forms, signage, awards, participant gifts, 

       hospitality, and corporate involvement.

     - Preparation of manuals and meetings with all stakeholders (Stadium Personnel, ESPN/ACCN, Medical 

       Teams, Ticket Managers, Directors of Football Operations, and Sport Administrators).

Education Requirements and Qualifications:

•  Bachelor’s degree or professional certification in a related field.

•  Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in college (NCAA FBS) or professional (NFL) 

football, including in team liaison/administration, game management, and/or football operations 

required.

•  Strong understanding of FBS college football.

•  Problem-solving, critical thinking, and excellent time management skills are required.

•  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

•  Ability to travel, on occasion, for meetings, conferences, and games.

•  Must pass pre-employment screens.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates in an office setting but also at indoor and outdoor venues 

including stadiums, arenas, and fields. Additionally, please note the following:

•  Ability to remain sitting for up to 8 hours at a desk or computer.

•  Ability to remain standing/walking for up to 8 hours.

•  Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs. of equipment.

•  Ability to squat, kneel, reach, and maneuver while setting up equipment.

•  Due to the nature of the ACC’s business, travel will occur to multiple sites as dictated by 

major and minor event schedules.

•  Due to the nature of events indoors and outdoors, you must be able to endure varying weather 

conditions including wind, rain, and high and low temperatures.

•  Understanding that due to the nature of our business, working hours will include nights, 

weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
