Subsidiary Summary: ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) is a subsidiary of the International Code Council and is the industry leader in performing technical evaluations of building products, materials and systems for code compliance. Position Summary: The Project Manager manages and executes product testing projects from initiation through completion, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with applicable standards, and timely delivery to clients. This role combines technical expertise with project management skills, serving as the primary technical contact for assigned projects and coordinating between clients, laboratory staff, and ICC Evaluation Services.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, organize, and manage product testing projects to ensure they are completed on schedule and within scope
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, providing clear communication on project requirements, timelines, and progress
- Coordinate with laboratory technicians, calibration staff, and evaluation engineers to ensure proper fire test execution and documentation
- Monitor fire testing activities to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with protocols
- Troubleshoot test setup or equipment issues in collaboration with laboratory staff
- Ensure that all project activities meet ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements and internal quality management procedures
- Guide clients through the testing and certification process, explaining requirements and results
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize test processes, equipment use, and project workflows
- Review and interpret test plans, engineering drawings, test requests, test methods, and technical specifications to determine appropriate test setups and procedures
- Coordinate with clients and laboratory staff to schedule tests, ensure readiness of equipment and test samples, and monitor project progress
- Maintain complete and accurate test records, photographs, and detailed reports of all construction and test activities
- Identify and resolve project risks or delays, escalating issues when appropriate
- Record important updates for assigned projects, including status and due dates.
- Evaluate and track assigned projects and associated schedules to ensure that timelines are acceptable and that the work is completed efficiently.
- Adhere to lab safety procedures and ensure all testing activities comply with internal and external safety standards
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special assignments as assigned
Essential Skills and Education/Experience:
- B.S in engineering, fire protection, or scientific discipline.
- 2+ years experience in a testing laboratory or TIC organization preferred
- Project management experience in a technical or laboratory setting
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and technical writing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project management or laboratory information systems a plus
- Strong communication skills for interaction with clients, technicians, and engineering peers
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously throughout the shift.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and reaching overhead.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools, equipment, and packaging materials.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other warehouse machinery (if certified).
- Tolerance for working in varying temperatures, including cold storage or outdoor areas.
- Must be able to climb ladders or stairs as needed.
- Visual and auditory acuity to identify safety hazards and follow instructions.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
