The role of the individualized teacher assistant is to help nurture a Catholic, loving, and safe environment in the classroom and assist in academic and social activities, ensuring compliance with program requirements and fostering individual growth. The assistant provides individualized academic, behavioral, and social support to a specific student under the supervision of a classroom teacher. The role helps ensure the student can successfully participate in classroom instruction and school activities.
Essential Functions:
• Provide individualized academic support in reading, writing, math, and classroom tasks.
• Assist the student in understanding teacher instructions and completing assignments.
• Ensures the Catholic faith is at the forefront of all teachings.
• Reinforce lessons introduced by the classroom teacher.
• Encourage independence while offering appropriate guidance.
• Monitors student in all environments (classroom, playground, enrichment classes, rest time, lunch time, etc.)
• Attends required development/training courses as laid out by the Department of Education.
• Implement behavior support plans or SSP accommodations as directed.
• Help the student stay focused and engaged during lessons.
• Support positive peer interactions and social skill development.
• Work closely with the classroom teacher and Student Support Specialist to adapt instructional materials.
• Communicate student needs and progress with appropriate staff.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Experience supporting students with SSPs or learning differences is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 30Ibs.
• Physical demands such as carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, walking, climbing and fine finger dexterity.
• Knowledge-based competencies required to perform the functions of following laws, regulations, and stages of child development, behavioral management strategies, and other policies.
• Assist in morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures daily.
• Must be available to assist with drop off by 7:15am and stay until all children are safely in the hands of their parent/guardian during pick up. Process is normally completed by 3:15pm.
