The Library Technical Services Specialist incorporates learned skills related to acquiring, organizing, and maintaining a variety of library materials, in collaboration with the Catalog Librarian. The specialist also provides customer service to patrons including processing new library cards, check-in & check-out of materials, collection of money for fees and other duties as assigned. Teamwork, communication and personal accountability are essential to the success of this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform library tasks during assigned customer service desk rotations
Maintain library shelf materials and keep public areas tidy
Assist patrons with standard library services
Assist patrons with library computer navigation, troubleshooting library device hardware issues, and introducing digital resources
Support staff with opening and closing procedures for both the library branch and outreach vehicles
Complete monthly check-in meeting with supervisor
Perform data entry tasks in the catalog and patron database
Manage material receiving, cataloging and processing
Manage inter-library loan requests and fulfillment
Support staff with front of house library operations
Competency: Adept with computer software navigation, customer service, and attention to detail. Ability to understand and apply both District policies and Colorado library laws. Ability to solve practical problems and respond to routine requests.
Work Environment: Inside support role, with occasional outside assignments. Regular interaction with other staff and the public. Operates phones, computers and office equipment.
Hours of Work: Hourly, Non-exempt Full-Time
The schedule requires one evening shift per week and one weekend shift per month.
Required education and experience: Bachelor’s Degree, equivalent work experience or completion of apprenticeship. One year of customer service work experience.

Non-essential functions:
- Support staff in outreach service procedures and providing standard library services during outreach events, including bookmobile operations
- Transport mail to and from the post office and sort into appropriate inboxes
- Assist in inventory procedures for books, materials and supplies
- Support serials cataloging, including magazine and newspaper materials, as well as claims and withdrawal procedures
- Assist the Technical Services Manager with special projects as assigned
