JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Practice Manager, and for clinical issues only the Nurse Practitioner or CNO, the Physician Practice Nurse will provide direct and indirect patient care in an office setting in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Will communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.  

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Ensures compliance with established company and regulatory guidelines and procedures to provide high-quality service and outstanding customer care.
  2. Participates in the development of area strategic plans, goals, and objectives ensuring alignment with EHS Health System goals. 
  3. Assists in implementing location-specific and area quality goals and action plans in order to achieve quality standards.
  4. Provides informal feedback on an ongoing basis and formal feedback in the annual performance evaluation process to identify and develop talent.
  5. Ensures a strong and robust communication process between all clinical and non-clinical staff within the area and across the division as needed by leading communication sessions and attending meetings as appropriate.
  6. Provides leadership, support, and guidance to team members in delivering pediatric services to the community.
  7. Conducts/Transports patients to exam rooms. Prepares room and patient for examination.
  8. Takes vital signs and records vitals in chart.
  9. Assists the Physician with care and treatment of patients.
  10. Obtains specimens via phlebotomy process and urine specimens by policy/procedure.
  11. Administers medications according to established policies and procedures as directed by Physician or mid-level practitioner.  
  12. Store/handle/transfer vaccines correctly in accordance with facility policy/procedure and by state, federal, and governing regulation.
  13. Administers treatments according to established policies and procedures; Labs, etc., as directed by Physician or mid-level practitioner.
  14. Participates in patient education involving patient’s family when appropriate.
  15. Completes the nursing portion of the patient charts, in an organized, neat, complete, and accurate manner.
  16. Identifies physical symptoms, physical changes and reports to the Physician.
  17. Observe and responds to behavioral and physiological changes due to medications.
  18. Performs pre-certifications for services requiring authorizations.
  19. Prepares patient for ordered procedures: lab, X-ray, surgery, treatment, etc., and complete forms or ordered procedures.
  20. Administers IV fluids according to center policy.
  21. Returns calls to patients.
  22. Calls in prescriptions for patients as required.
  23. Reviews home care with patient.
  24. Communicates with other agencies, physicians, facilities, pharmacies, when appropriate and as directed by the physician.
  25. Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.
  26. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and completion of Licensed Practical Nurse Training course or Registered Nurse.

Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.  

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered current Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse license or Registered Nurse license, and Basic Life Support CPR certification.

Work Experience: Six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
