Job Title: General Labor

Position Summary

General Labor team members play a key role in supporting daily production operations within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This position performs a variety of duties on a rotating basis, including ingredient handling, equipment support, packaging, quality checks, and general production assistance while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Job Duties

The duties listed below are representative of the role and may be adjusted based on operational needs. Employees may be required to perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Essential Duties

These duties directly and substantially support the purpose of the position. The following responsibilities are typically performed on a rotating basis:

  • Scale and transport ingredients for production use
  • Examine products to verify conformance with quality      standards
  • Open rejected cans as directed
  • Operate meat dumper equipment and transfer raw      materials into batch containers
  • Perform kitchen and production prep work
  • Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and      conveyance systems
  • Operate equipment as needed, including material      transfer carts, shovels, and electric can openers
  • Hand palletize 8 oz. 6-pack, 12-pack, and other      finished cases 
  • Perform glass dump duties, including lifting and      dumping multiple boxes of empty bottles onto conveyor lines (up to 15 lbs.      total per lift) throughout a 10-hour shift
  • Perform repetitive motion tasks related to bottle      dumping and line loading
  • Work in the Cooker area, including pushing and      pulling heavy baskets on dollies
  • Load cans onto conveyors for production runs
  • Build cardboard boxes and packaging materials
  • Seal cardboard boxes for shipment
  • Pack cans into boxes according to production      specifications

Additional Duties

  • Assist in other production departments as assigned
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, safety      rules, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area
  • Support production efficiency and teamwork across      departments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Employees in this role are required to wear the following PPE as applicable:

  • Bump cap
  • Hearing protection
  • Hair net
  • Beard net (if applicable)
  • Eye protection
  • Gloves
  • Proper slip-resistant footwear
  • Company uniform or smock

Work Environment

This position is based in a food manufacturing facility where teamwork, safety, attendance, and adherence to quality standards are essential to success.

Physical Requirements

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending      ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and      legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is      important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that      required for ordinary locomotion.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium      to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery      or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and      kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance      of body equilibrium.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and      forward bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs      to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities      and back muscles.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to      a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and      forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees      or hands and feet.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any      direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained      periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to      accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press      against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward      or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert      force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to      a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to      position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree      and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back      muscles.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or      otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole arm      as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object      with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of      objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with      skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas      by means of the spoken word. Includes those activities in which they must      convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers      accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing
  • Vision: Attention to the surroundings      when operating a forklift.
  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements      (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Degree of physical exertion required for the position.

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of      force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to      10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects

Environmental conditions the employee will be subject to in this position.

  • Inside environmental conditions: Protection      from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause      the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Vibration: Exposure to oscillating      movements of the extremities or the whole body.
  • Hazard: Includes a variety of physical      conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical      current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or      exposure to chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions: One or more of      the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin:      Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
  • Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure      to oils and other cutting fluids.

Education/ Experience/ Skills Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Ability to read/write, speak and comprehend English      and/or Spanish
