COMPANY OVERVIEW

Feeding Tampa Bay serves ten counties in West Central Florida and is a leader in hunger relief across our region. Just last year, we served 85M meals to our neighbors through direct service and through our network of 400+ food pantry partners.

But, we know food alone won’t solve hunger — that’s why we’re redefining what it means to feed our region. By creating pathways to possibilities for nearly 1 million people, Feeding Tampa Bay connects and convenes solutions, partners and resources that nourish long-term stability. As a member of the Feeding America network, we will work to dismantle barriers for individuals, families, and seniors across our area — because it’s possible.

Summary

We are seeking a visionary, systems-thinking leader to serve as our Senior Director of Workforce Development. This is not just a program management role; it is a strategic position that will design and deliver multi-pronged solutions, bridging the workforce gap in our region.

This role will work from multiple angles to tackle these solutions - building pathways into the workforce for individuals of all ages, understanding employer demands and industry needs and designing curriculum to meet it, creating a network of strategic partnerships that follows a do/partner/refer model, and identifying sustainable funding streams.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Architecture & Innovation

  • Design and execute a comprehensive workforce development strategy that integrates direct programming, referral networks, and employer-led training.
  • Apply a systems-thinking lens to identify barriers within the local labor market and develop scalable solutions that address both micro-level individual needs and macro-level economic trends.
  • Position the organization as a thought leader in the Tampa Bay workforce ecosystem.

Partnership & Ecosystem Cultivation

  • Build and maintain deep relationships with key stakeholders, including the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, CareerSource, community colleges, and vocational schools.
  • Establish a "preferred provider" referral network to ensure participants have access to a wide spectrum of wraparound services and specialized certifications.
  • Develop an Employer Advisory Board to ensure all training initiatives align with real-time industry demands in sectors like Healthcare, IT, Advanced Manufacturing, and Logistics.

Funding & Sustainability

  • Navigate and leverage diverse funding streams, including federal/state funding, private foundations, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to identify new revenue opportunities that support long-term scalability.

Impact Measurement & Scalability

  • Define "Success" beyond simple placement—focusing on wage gains, long-term retention, and career mobility.
  • Utilize data analytics to evaluate program efficacy and pivot strategies based on labor market shifts.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Excel working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and demonstrate the ability to embrace the FTB’s commitment to treat all people with equity and respect in pursuit of our mission to feed people in need and mobilize our community to eliminate hunger
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, master's degree a plus.
  • Experience: 8–10+ years of progressive experience in workforce development, economic development, or a related field; at least 3-5 years in a director-level or senior leadership role.
  • Regional Expertise: Deep knowledge of the Tampa Bay labor market, including key industry clusters and the local political/funding landscape.
  • Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to build "multi-pronged" strategies that go beyond traditional job placement.
  • Financial Literacy: Strong understanding of funding opportunities and public/private workforce incentives.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex systems into actionable plans for team members, donors, and corporate partners.

What Success Looks Like

The Senior Director will have succeeded when our organization is viewed as the primary pipeline for Tampa Bay’s in-demand industries, having created a frictionless path for individuals to move from economic instability to high-growth careers through a blend of internal innovation and external collaboration.

Core Competencies

  • Systems Thinking: Seeing the "big picture" of how policy, education, and industry intersect.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: The ability to build new programs from scratch and iterate quickly.
  • Cultural Competency: Understanding the unique barriers faced by diverse populations in the region.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Leading through influence rather than just authority.
