Position Summary

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for coordinating freight bookings and shipment execution across the Defense Logistics Agency, shipping lines, carriers, vendors/packers, and customers. This role serves as a central point of contact, communicating proactively and effectively across internal departments and external partners to ensure shipments are executed accurately, cost-effectively, and in full, while meeting required timelines and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Freight Planning & Execution

  • Coordinate and manage all domestic and international freight bookings to support customer orders and internal supply chain movements.
  • Submit and manage booking requests with DLA based on approved load plans from Customer Service.
  • Obtain and evaluate a minimum of three carrier quotes per shipment, negotiating competitive rates that balance cost, service, and reliability.

Transportation Visibility & Communication

  • Maintain real-time shipment visibility through daily follow-up with carriers, 3PL warehouses, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proactively communicate booking status, delays, and shipping updates to ensure alignment across Customer Service, Warehousing, and Leadership teams.
  • Provide timely and accurate shipping information to external warehouse partners to support execution and planning.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Generate and distribute all required shipping documentation to packers, warehouses, carriers, DLA, and internal departments.
  • Process container activity in the Container Management system to produce final, compliant shipping documentation following loading.
  • Maintain a minimum of 99% accuracy across all container and shipment documentation, ensuring audit-ready records.

Metrics, Reporting & Cost Control

  • Support logistics and supply chain metrics by capturing accurate freight, shipment, and booking data.
  • Partner with leadership to provide visibility into freight performance, costs, and service outcomes.

Inventory Support & Operational Readiness

  • Coordinate ordering and distribution of shipping supplies to facilities to prevent operational disruptions.
  • Support smooth warehouse operations by ensuring transportation and documentation readiness aligns with shipping schedules.

Policy Adherence & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Strictly adhere to all Richmond Wholesale employment policies, departmental SOPs, and applicable federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote efficiency, accountability, and a positive, solutions-oriented work environment in support of the company’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in logistics and/or freight bookings
  • Technical Skills:
  • Intermediate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel 


Preferred:

  • Education: Associate Degree or higher
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in logistics and/or freight bookings

Salary Description
$25 - $30 per hour
