Lead Barista, Drogo’s Coffee Bar
Reports to Catholic Center Director of University Ministry
Compensation Hourly Part Time, nonexempt $18.32/hr.
Hours Variable hours scheduled by director. Monday -Thursday 7am-7pm, Friday 7am-5pm, Saturday 9am-2pm. Including summer hours

Our Mission
Drogo’s Coffee Bar is a ministry of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center. Just as Christ teaches us to love our neighbor, at Drogo’s Coffee Bar our mission is to welcome and serve customers with the love of Christ.
Duties and responsibilities
Customer Service and Hospitality
- Greet customers warmly and create a welcoming atmosphere
- Take orders accurately and answer questions about menu items
- Make recommendations based on customer preferences
- Handle cash, card, and digital payments
- Address customer concerns or complaints professionally
- Coordinates events with the barista staff
Drink Preparation
- Prepare coffee and espresso drinks according to recipes and standards
- Steam milk and create basic latte art (if required)
- Brew drip coffee, tea, and other beverages
- Customize drinks based on customer requests (milk alternatives, syrups, etc.)
- Ensure consistency in quality and presentation
Food Preparation
- Prepare and serve pastries or light food items
- Heat or assemble simple menu items
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards
Cleanliness & Organization
- Keep the bar area clean and organized at all times
- Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment
- Wipe down counters, tables, and high-touch surfaces
- Sweep and mop floors regularly
- Take out trash and recycling
Stocking & Inventory
- Manages inventory weekly
- Orders new inventory when needed
- Restock cups, lids, straws, napkins, and ingredients
- Monitor inventory levels and notify manager of shortages
- Rotate stock and check expiration dates
Equipment Maintenance
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other equipment
- Perform basic daily cleaning and maintenance of machines
- Report on any equipment issues promptly
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other baristas and staff
- Communicate clearly during busy periods
- Follow directions from director and be open to feedback
- Meets with Directory of University Ministry regularly
Opening & Closing Duties
- Set up the shop for opening (brew coffee, stock supplies, prep station)
- Close properly (clean equipment, sanitize surfaces, secure register)
- Count money drawer sales with director and operations manager weekly
Qualifications & Expectations
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Be a fully initiated Catholic in communion with the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
- Must be available during summer hours
- Actively involved in the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic community for at least one year
- Worked for Drogo’s at least two years preferred
- Warm, approachable, and engaging in all interactions
- Models’ virtuous behavior and serves as a positive example within the community
- Embraces a mission-oriented mindset, helping create a space that feels like a home away from home
- Be receptive to feedback and open to ongoing improvement
- Communicate clearly and consistently with the manager regarding scheduling and any issues
