Description

Summary:

Performs varied and highly responsible clerical, technical, and administrative work. Provides support to the Building and Electrical Inspectors. Assists in the tracking and issuance of building and electrical permits. Provides customer service and serves as liaison between the public and the Planning and Development Services staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties of an administrative nature, including answering and routing incoming telephone calls and greeting walk-in customers.
  • Responds to frequent telephone, email, fax or in-person inquiries regarding building permit requirements, status, fees, and inspections.
  • Provides Administrative support to Building and Electrical Inspectors.
  • Processes permit applications by accepting applications and checking for accuracy and completeness.
  • Issues permits and Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Enters permit and inspection data into computer system.
  • Maintains monthly reports.
  • Calculates and collects fees for applications.
  • Sets up files in an orderly manner and handles filing of all letters, permits and related information in subdivision and parcel files.

Qualifications

Education and /or Experience:
High school diploma or general education (GED).
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of office terminology, methods, practices and procedures. Working knowledge of construction and building practices, as well as an understanding of codes, subdivision regulations and zoning ordinances. Ability to learn new operating systems. Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files. Ability to handle the public with considerable professionalism, tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Programs and Operating Systems
