The Middle School Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, content-specific instruction while supporting the academic and personal development of adolescents. Teachers foster critical thinking, independence, and college/career readiness in a structured and engaging classroom environment.
Requirements
Administrative Responsibilities
- Fulfill supervision and duty assignments (hallways, lunch, arrival/dismissal)
- Take attendance within the first 5 minutes of each class period
- Communicate announcements and expectations to students
- Supervise students during transitions and school events
- Maintain accurate gradebooks, attendance, and seating charts
- Update grades and assignments in PowerSchool weekly
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in assigned subject area(s) (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)
- Develop rigorous, engaging lessons that promote critical thinking
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic levels
- Use a variety of teaching strategies (discussion, group work, projects, direct instruction)
- Prepare students for assessments and high school readiness
- Maintain an organized and academically focused classroom
- Develop and administer assessments, including quarterly exams
- Integrate cross-curricular connections when appropriate
Student Assessment & Family Communication
- Track and analyze student performance data
- Provide regular progress updates and report cards
- Communicate frequently with families regarding academic and behavioral progress
- Contact parents/guardians of at-risk students prior to grading periods
- Lead and participate in parent-teacher conferences
Enrichment & Student Support
- Provide academic intervention and enrichment opportunities
- Sponsor clubs, extracurricular activities, or academic teams
- Incorporate technology to enhance instruction
- Plan field trips, guest speakers, or career exploration opportunities
- Support students’ social-emotional and behavioral development
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professional dress and demeanor
- Adhere to all school policies and expectations
- Attend faculty meetings, PD sessions, and required events
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and culture-building activities
- Demonstrate continuous professional growth
- Substitute for colleagues when necessary
