Purchasing & Quality Control Coordinator

This hybrid role supports both the Purchasing and Quality functions by coordinating mill orders and releases, verifying incoming material, and preparing customer-required certifications. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort with data-heavy systems, and working knowledge of steel grades, dimensions, tolerances, and plant capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Price items appropriately based on product extras while staying mindful of plant capabilities, grades, tolerances, and customer requirements.
  • Verifying PPS Data, entering purchase orders and costs, and maintaining mill price blocks.
  • Maintain data for monthly contract tons per mill and adjust monthly price changes per mill contract.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and expedite orders/loads;      provide PO status updates as requested.
  • Enter PO base information into the RUAN portal and provide release information.
  • Resolve pricing discrepancies if they arise with      Accounts Payable.
  • Resolve shipment errors and material issues/defects with suppliers and/or mills; determine acceptability and prepare documentation for claims/debits where applicable.
  • Support receiving by answering questions regarding incoming material and reconciling received coil information against purchase orders.
  • Input and verify chemical and mechanical information      (chemistries, physicals, N&R values, etc.) and forward chemistries to the Certifications team as needed.
  • Prepare and file customer-required certifications/certificates of analysis for shipments that meet specifications; file supporting documentation (receiving reports, lab results, certifications).
  • Track shipped loads and file documentation accordingly; distribute mill reports and obtain gauge/width documentation per request.
  • Respond to customer/sales inquiries via email, phone, and fax.
  • Track and monitor both internal and external testing requirements. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  •  High attention to detail with accurate data entry skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; customer service mindset.
  • Strong math skills and comfort working with tolerances, gauges, and dimensions.
  • Ability to read purchase orders/work orders and research inquiries or problems independently.
  • Independent decision-making with strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of steel grades and dimensions; steel service center and/or manufacturing knowledge preferred.
  • Computer literacy required; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Shipping/Receiving experience helpful; quality/certifications experience a plus.
  • Ability to follow written instructions on work orders and SOPs.
