Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position will carry out the following responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in accordance with scope of practice.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and obtain detailed patient medical histories.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory and imaging studies.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide patient education on disease prevention, health maintenance, and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including adherence to UDS and clinical performance metrics.
- Respond to patient inquiries, manage follow-up care, and coordinate referrals to specialists as needed.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Maintain compliance with all UNHS policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal, state, and tribal laws.
- Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervising physician or UNHS leadership.

Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Utah (or ability to obtain).
- Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
- Current BLS (CPR/AED) certification.
- Strong clinical knowledge and ability to provide patient care independently within scope.
Preferred
- Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in primary care or outpatient setting.
- Experience in rural healthcare, tribal health systems, or Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
- Familiarity with Navajo Nation healthcare environment and cultural considerations.
As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:
- MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
- Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- COVID-19 vaccine
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
