Job Title: Wellness Engagement Counselor

These are the essential requirements to serve in the Wellness Engagement Counselor role: 

  • A Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
  • A  valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential with authorization in Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) or licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Experience with implementing a Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports (MTMDSS), with a focus on data-driven strategies to improve scholar engagement, support graduation outcomes, and provide crisis intervention for high-risk populations.  
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and evidence-based counseling strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex scholar cases and collaborate  effectively with scholars, families, staff and school leadership.
  • Experience supporting scholars in flex based, online, personalized, and/or virtual learning environments preferred.

  • Highly proficient in digital engagement; computer & software, including Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, AI applications, digital communication tools (e.g., gmail, ParentSquare), online learning platforms, the Compass Student Information System and other Compass systems

  • Ability to have crucial conversations with subordinates and colleagues to support Compass’ mission and vision. 

Essential duties and responsibilities for the Wellness Engagement Counselor may include:

  • Monitor scholar engagement and participation in the Independent Study program to ensure compliance with state regulations and school policies.
  • Lead and manage  the implementation and oversight of the Independent Study re-engagement process, ensuring timely interventions, documentation, and adherence to required timelines.
  • Analyze data to identify scholars in need of support and proactively address patterns of disengagement.
  • Coordinate tiered levels of scholar re-engagement supports, including targeted outreach, progress monitoring, and collaboration with staff.
  • Provide case management for scholars experiencing significant barriers to engagement through individualized intervention planning and ongoing monitoring.
  • Partner with families to identify barriers impacting scholar engagement and provide guidance, resources, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary intervention meetings and other support planning processes.
  • Connect scholars and families with school-based and community resources to address social-emotional, academic, and environmental barriers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to interventions, engagement monitoring, and compliance with Independent Study and attendance requirements.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to strengthen schoolwide systems and strategies that promote scholar engagement and retention.

Work Environment:

Position is based in an approved home office in the State of California. As the safety, adequacy, and functionality of the approved home office is key, approval must be provided to work from any other location with the exception of the Central Office. May be required to also work from the Central Office, Learning Center, or other Compass location as directed by supervisor or the Superintendent & CEO. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of scholars, Learning Coaches (parents), and staff. Must be able to travel throughout the State of California for school-related activities. Note - you will be required to notify HR if any work will be performed in San Francisco or out of state for any period of time for review and pre-approval.
