Fully Remote Remote Worker - N/A
Job Type
Full-time
Description

High Street is a 40-person transportation consulting firm with a national footprint, working in 30+ states for federal, state, and local clients. We work across the full range of transportation policy and planning. We’re fully remote.

Job Summary

You’ll contribute to transportation projects in areas like:

  • Agency strategic planning
  • Long-range planning
  • Program and policy development
  • Performance management
  • Safety analysis and planning
  • Asset management
  • Freight planning
  • Grant writing

The exact mix will vary. High Street has 75+ active projects per year, and we deliberately rotate consultants across project types so you can build a broad portfolio early in your career. You’ll work in small virtual teams of 2-6 people, typically supporting 3-5 projects at once. Individual projects typically last 3-18 months. You’ll be guided by a people manager and take direction from project managers and task leaders, who will review your work and expect you to bring your own thinking to it. Most of your time will be spent delivering projects and interacting with clients, with occasional support for proposals to secure new work. You’ll occasionally travel, typically 2-6 trips per year for client meetings, conferences, and team gatherings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research – Gather, interpret, and synthesize information from varied reputable sources (e.g., researching transportation funding sources to inform a revenue study).
  • Data analysis and visualization – Use tools like Excel, R, Python, Tableau, and Power BI to clean, forecast, and interpret data (e.g., evaluating the safety impacts of different investments).
  • Spatial analysis – Build maps, create spatial datasets, perform spatial analysis, and support the development of StoryMaps, Dashboards, or Web Apps using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (e.g., building a map of safety needs and benefits at a variety of investment levels).
  • Stakeholder input – Design and conduct interviews, surveys, and virtual or in-person workshops (e.g., hosting a stakeholder meeting to discuss transportation needs in a region).
  • Project writing – Turn research and analysis into clear, concise written deliverables (e.g., writing a report to summarize the benefits of different investment levels).
  • Proposal writing – Develop resumes, bio sketches, and project descriptions for business proposals (e.g., tailoring firm qualifications to demonstrate our experience for a specific pursuit).
  • Quality control – Proofread and fact-check your own and others’ work across research, analysis, and writing tasks (e.g., reviewing a task memo for accuracy).
  • Project coordination – Support project managers with logistics like scheduling client meetings, taking notes, and tracking action items (e.g., capture follow-ups and preparing a summary from a kickoff meeting).
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field – you have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant topic; common High Street backgrounds include public policy, political science, public administration, planning, economics, data science, and civil engineering.
  • Strong writing and communication skills – you can express ideas clearly in writing and out loud, with colleagues and clients alike.
  • Self-motivated with good time management – you take initiative, juggle multiple assignments, hit deadlines with little oversight, thrive in a remote environment, and flag questions early.
  • Comfort learning new tools and approaches – you pick up new things quickly and can dig into unfamiliar topics with limited guidance.
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization.

Preferred

  • 3+ years of professional work experience, or a postgraduate degree in relevant field and 1+ year of professional experience.
  • Prior consulting experience.
